Mangaluru, Jun 29: A youth from Puttur, who was on a visit to the seashore at Guddekopla near here, was on the verge of drowning. The fishermen came to his rescue and saved his life.

The incident took place on Sunday June 28. The youth had continued to swim in the sea, ignoring warnings of the local fishermen.

A huge wave which lashed the shore, dragged him away into the sea with it.

The youth somehow held on to a dredger that is anchored at Guddekola and which is likely to drown shortly. The youth was begging to be rescued. Fire officers and Karnataka Coastal Security Force personnel who tried their hand to save the youth failed to bring him back to safety.

Young fishermen from Guddekopla, Shriyan and Suman, then swam to the dredger and safely brought the youth back to the shore.
