Govt fleecing people by raising fuel prices: Congress

New Delhi, Jun 29 (IANS): The Congress on Monday attacked the central government over the daily increases in the prices of petrol and diesel for over three weeks, saying that the government was "fleecing" the people in this manner.

The opposition party also said that people from different sections of society and those rendered jobless were struggling to survive the economic ruin unleashed by the anti-people policies of the Modi government.

"The BJP-led government is fleecing people by not just increasing fuel prices but also refusing to share with the people the benefits of lower crude oil prices globally, so as to reduce their burden," Congress spokesperson Khushbu Sundar said at a press conference here.

The Congress leader said that "repeated and unjust increases" in fuel prices as also the central excise duty on petrol and diesel had inflicted "insurmountable pain and suffering" on the people of India.

The Congress said that in May 2014 (when BJP assumed power), excise duty on petrol was Rs 9.20 per litre and on diesel Rs 3.46 per litre. "In the last six years, the Modi has increased the excise duty on petrol by an additional Rs 23.78 per litre and on diesel by an additional Rs 28.37 per litre. It is a shocking 820 per cent hike in excise duty on diesel and 258 per cent increase in excise duty on petrol," Sundar said.

"The Modi government has earned Rs 18,00,000 crore in the last six years by increasing excise duty on petrol and diesel alone," the Congress leader added.

Meanwhile, the Congress supporters protested against the fuel prices hike across the country, and use various means of demonstration.

Is fuel prices are only affecting the Congress government. Why not communist, RJD, JD(S), Shiv Sena, NCP, SP, BSP, BJD, Muslim Legaue, AIMIM and so on are not starting their own agitation?

The BJP government using India-China tension to raise the fuel prices from last three weeks on daily basis. The citizens of India already having pay cuts due pandemic is now facing additional burden by the ruling central government.

If government don't bow to the silent protest then Congress should go the way of Jat, Patidar, Kapur way of protest. We the citizen of this nation demand fuel prices bring under 'GST'. If government can't pass the benefit of lower crude oil prices then even crony capitalist fuel mafia cannot be tolerated.

Let't the BJP don't forget, the nation wants a just answer for China incursion. The nation security is more priority than the fuel prices.

Why should we forget Modi? Fuel prices are skyrocketing when International prices are low and Andhbhakts still ask Congress to reduce the prices in their states. Are you not aware when the international price was 4 times then they were selling at lesser prices.

Congress has shown their capability. Ask Modi to follow the same. If he don't know then let him take tuition from MMS

Now apply your highly valued math and break down here. During UPA era when crude in international market was $140/ litre our price in the petrol pumps was far less than the current price. Now the crude is $40/ litre and how much are you paying for petrol now??????....All congress ruled states have to buy petrol from union govt and at the price the govt has set, so they can not sell it for less. It is quite obvious because of highly qualified accountants like you are in BJP govt people are paying exhorbitantly high price for petrol while you import it dirt cheap.

The Modi government has earned Rs 18,00,000 crore in the last six years by increasing excise duty on petrol and diesel alone," --if all this money distributed to each citizen of India there would have been no poverty and Govt would have been hailed by everyone. But this Govt lost its opportunity

Now all protests by opposition is due to unanimous, unilateral and non transparent decisions of the govt. Why opposition is kept in the dark?????....Its because govt is doing illegal and unconstitional practices and can never be done if opposition is involved and taken into confidence to do the underhand dirty work.
