Mangalore: Policemen Arrest another Aide of Ravi Poojary

Mangalore, Feb 18: The district crime intelligence bureau has succeeded in arresting another accomplice of underground criminal, Ravi Poojary, relating to making ransom calls amounting to five crore rupees to two entrepreneurs from the city, and posing murder threats to them upon their refusal to oblige. The arrest was made on Wednesday February 17, from near Attavara Katte in the city.

The arrested man has been identified as Avil Coelho from Udupi. Reportedly, he managed the financial affairs of Ravi Poojary in the city, making payments to various persons at Poojary’s directions. With the arrest of Coelho, the number of arrested men in the case has gone up to nine.

In the meantime, Mahadevaiah, a canteen worker of Mysore Jail, who was arrested on the charge of extending help to the accused in their activities, has been brought to the city. It is said that Dinesh Amin, an undertrial prisoner in Mysore, used to take Mahadevaiah’s help in plotting various activities. Dinesh Amin is one of the accused in the murder of advocate, Naushad Kashimji in the city. The policemen propose to generate body warrant to seek custody of and question, Dinesh Amin shortly.

The policemen in the meantime, are on the look out for several more people, who had been involved with the operation of the gang. The eight men arrested earlier in the case, were produced in the court on Wednesday, upon which, they were remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. The policemen want to seek police custody of the arrested men, and will take steps shortly to file application in the court in this respect, sources said.
