Mangalore: Dr Mohan Alva Inaugurates ‘Decafest-2010’ at Fr Muller Medical College

Mangalore, Feb 18: The mega event ‘Decafest-2010’ was inaugurated at Fr Muller Medical College campus stadium on Thursday February 18.
Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva’s Education Trust, inaugurated the five-day event by lighting a lamp. Representatives of ten batches participating in the event came by during the inaugural function, carrying flags and torches.
Dr Alva said that the world is becoming a small town and the youth need to gear up to meet this challenge. “There is a need to contribute to the preservation of the culture of our nation which has been formed by a number of religions. The youth need to cultivate humanity, serve society, and be good citizens”, he added.
“Our nation, with several thousand years of history, is culturally rich and the youth have a great challenge to save this culture. Indians are good in human relations and this cannot be found in foreign countries”, he said adding that our ancestors struggled to contribute to our culture.
Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator of FMCH, introduced Dr Alva to the audience. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMCI, presided over the function.
Dr J P Alva, dean of the college, welcomed all. P T Jayam, co-ordinator of the fest, proposed the vote of thanks. Medical officer Dr Sanjeev Rai as well as student co-ordinators Dr Arun P Jose and Dr Ashwin Luiz were present.
The fest will conclude on Sunday February 21 after about 30 different scheduled events.
The events include computer gaming, arm wrestling, and pot-breaking, the first of its kind in the city. About 36 colleges including institutions in the field of medical, dental, engineering, and law are participating.
