Kundapur: Suspected Naxals in Police Custody

Kundapur, Feb 19: Suspected naxals, Devendra (37) and Saroja (29), who were recently arrested by the Shimoga policemen, have been entrusted to the custody of the local policemen by a local court, till 11 am on Friday February 19. Deputy superintendent of police here, who happens to be the inquiry officer for certain incidents that had occurred within the jurisdiction of Amasebail and Shankarnarayana police stations within the district, had sought their custody.

The two, who were remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Mysore jail, were brought to the town.  Devendra, a native of Sorab taluk in Shimoga district, who has studied law, had been active in unions since his student days. Saroja from Horale in Megur village of Koppa taluk, Chikmagalur district, allegedly, is active in the  fight of the tribals against the Western Ghat Reserve Forest rules.

The policemen want to find out whether they were linked with some cases registered in the district in 2006.
