NCW seeks UP DGP's report on Bhatni SHO's improper behaviour

New Delhi, Jul 1 (IANS): The National Commission of Women (NCW), taking cognizance of media reports regarding an incident where a policeman masturbated in front of a woman complainant in the Deoria district of UP, said it was "perturbed" and "shocked" by the misbehaviour of a person holding a responsible position.

"Considering the gravity of the matter, I request you to send a detailed action-taken report regarding the same," said NCW chief Rekha Sharma in a letter to Uttar Pradesh DGP H.C. Awasthi.

Speaking to IANS, an NCW official said, "The Deoria police in its response has said legal action is being taken against the said inspector by registering an indictment."

The incident took place at Bhatni police station. In the video that has gone viral on the social media, the Station House Officer (SHO) is seen masturbating in front of a woman complainant.

The woman alleged the officer, Bhishm Pal Singh, was touching his private parts in front of her when she was taken to his chamber to lodge the complaint.

"I ignored his misbehaviour for the first 2-3 times and wanted him to lodge our case in a land dispute. But then a woman relative said she also faced a similar fate at the hands of this officer. This is when I decided to film him," she said.

Deoria SP Shripati Mishra said, "A FIR has been registered and he has been suspended. Action is being taken."
