Goa CM orders probe into party organised by BJP MLA

Panaji, Jul 6 (IANS): Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, here on Monday, said he would enquire into two parties, one of which was organised by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Glenn Ticlo on Sunday amid the Covid-19 pandemic. "We will enquire into it," Sawant said.

Sawant's statement comes a day after a video of Ticlo attending a party with 20 others at a sea-fronted house of Calangute beach village went viral. In the video, most guests were seen not wearing masks or maintaining social distance.

The party was organised even as Sawant on Sunday urged people not to unnecessarily venture out of homes and even attend family events to stem the rising tide of Covid-19 cases.

Ports Minister Michael Lobo said the North Goa district administration had not given permission to hold any private party.

"If anyone, including BJP members attended any party, action will be taken under section 188 (disobeying public servant)," Lobo said. Section 144 continues to be imposed in Goa in view of the pandemic.

Speaking to reporters Ticlo said he was present at the event, but left in 5 minutes. "I just went there, said 'Hi' and left in 5 minutes," Ticlo, an MLA from the Aldona constituency, said.

The other party was a music event, attended by over 200 people, including foreigners, at the beach village of Morjim on Sunday night.
