Bangalore : Fr. Adolf Washington Re-elected President of Catholic Press Associatio

Chennai, Feb 22:
The 47-year old Indian Catholic Press Association re-elected Fr. Adolf Washington as President at its Annual General Body meeting held in Chennai 20th February. Fr. Washington who will serve a 3-year term is presently the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of South Asian Religious News Agency run by the ICPA.  He is also Public Relations Officer of Bangalore Archdiocese and the Director of Communications in the Archdiocese.

In his message, shortly after being elected he said “The ICPA should become a stronger force by inducting more and more lay journalists from the secular publications.  It is my desire that this association and the media at large must more strongly resolve to denounce communalism and fundamentalist forces that are dividing this nation.  Together we can make it happen when we put our writing and reporting talents to greater use”.  Vice President Vincent D'souza, in his message said "We must work towards more collaboration with other media and strengthen our commitment to proclaiming the truth through our publications and writings". 
 
Vincent D’Souza, Editor of Mylapore Times was elected as the Vice-President. In his message he said "We must work towards more collaboration with other media and strengthen our commitment to proclaiming the truth through our publications and writings".

F.A.Nathan from Chennai was re-elected secretary.  Other office-bearers elected are Fr. Jayan Nazhapuza (Joint-secretary) Salesian priest Fr. Glorious Steve (representative of Institution) and Sr.Benigna Menezes (representative for women Journalists). The executive committee representing different include Fr. Chrysostom Hembrom (Northern region). Matthew Plathotam (Southern region) Roman Bhatia (Western region). The EC will decide on a member representative from the Eastern region and appoint a Treasurer shortly.
 
The ICPA is the oldest and the only National Press Association in the country with its office in Bangalore.  The Association will celebrate its Golden Jubilee in 2012. Cardinal Oswald Gracias is its Ecclesiastical advisor.
