Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 7: Dakshina Kannada reported 83 new cases of novel coronavirus and a death, while Udupi reported 28 fresh cases on Tuesday July 7.

A total of 21,881 samples have been sent for tests so far. As many as 20,036 have turned out negative, and 1,359 are positive till date. Out of these, 650 cases are currently active. As many as 683 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 26 deaths have occurred so far, including two non-COVID deaths.

One death was reported on Tuesday. The deceased is a 65-year-old man who was suffering from heart disease and pneumonia. He passed away in a private hospital.

As many as 99 patients were discharged from Wenlock and other private hospitals on Tuesday. Three patients are currently in ICU.

Of the 83 who tested positive on Tuesday, 59 are males and 24 females, including 5 children. Among the 75 new patients, two have returned from Chikkamagaluru, 20 are diagnosed with influenza-like illness (ILI), one is diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) and 50 are primary and secondary contacts of earlier patients. Contact tracing process of three patients is on, three are random samples, three pre-surgery samples and three pre-surgery samples before delivery.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and a total of 4,875 have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 1,170 persons are currently in home quarantine.

A total of 138 people are in isolation wards, including 37 fresh admissions on Tuesday. Among the new admissions, three are COVID suspect, 13 have SARI and 21 influenza-like illness.

As many as 1,023 people, including 21 on Tuesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 19,773 samples have been collected so far, including 1,231 on Tuesday, out of which 23 are COVID contacts. Out of them, 15,756 samples have turned out to be negative, including 216 on Tuesday, and 2,627 reports are awaited.

As many as 1,390 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 28 on Tuesday. As many as 1,182 patients have been discharged so far including 28 on Tuesday, and 205 cases are currently active. Three deaths have occurred so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.

Among the new cases, 28 are primary contacts, two each have travel history to Maharashtra and Mangaluru, four have travelled from Bengaluru, one each from Tumakuru and Dubai, and 12 are contacts of earlier patients, and contact tracing of six is under process.
