Govt panel to probe violations by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation

New Delhi, Jul 8 (IANS): The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has set up an inter-ministerial committee to probe the various violations of legal provisions by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.

The committee will coordinate investigations into violation of provisions like the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Income Tax Act and Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) by these foundations, a Home Ministry official said.

The official said that a Special Director of Enforcement Directorate will head the committee.

The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation was established on June 21, 1991. The foundation works on a range of issues, including literacy, health, disability, empowerment of the underprivileged, livelihood and natural resource management. Its current focus areas are education, disability and natural resource management.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi is the Chairperson of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram are members of the board.

The Centre's move followed recent allegations launched by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the Congress and the Gandhi family claiming that China had funded the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

Last month, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, citing some documentary proof, sought an explanation from the Congress to explain why the Chinese Embassy donated about Rs 90 lakh to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

It is alleged that the Embassy of The People's Republic of China in India and the Government of the People's Republic of China are donors to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

A petition has also been filed before the Supreme Court to seek a probe into the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Congress and the Communist Party of China signed in 2008.

Instead of taking necessary steps for the control of virus and economic revival this government is busy in witch hunting so that Modi can have free run. Modi thinks that by troubling his opponents he can shut their voices. Gandhi family has seen lot of such threats and have come unscathed. This is another effort by the ruling party to scare the Gandhi family and the same will fall flat as all the earlier cases.

Modi finds Gandhi family as threat to his leadership and thinks that if he can finish them then he can be safe. This crisis has opened up eyes of many people and now it will be difficult for him to fool the people. He cannot hide the irregularities of PM Cares Fund by investigating RG Fund because it was transparent and all details are available in the internet.

The BJP Govt was caught on the wrong foot totally by Abhishek Singhvi and badly embarrassed in his press conference last week. These were his observations that have caused this reaction to appoint a Probe Panel

PM-CARES Fund was set up after the Chinese intrusion in Depsang-2013, Chumar-2014 and Doklam-2017. Why did the PM accept funds from these Chinese companies that have a deep connection with the Chinese Army the PLA.

Why has PM Modi received Chinese money in the PM-CARES fund, despite the overt Chinese hostilities? Has PM received Rs 7 crore from the controversial company Huawei ? Does Huawei have a direct connection with People's Liberation Army of China? Has the Chinese company owning TikTok facilitated a donation of Rs 30 crore to the controversial PM CARES Fund?" The Congress has also asked if Paytm, which has 38 per cent Chinese ownership, given Rs 100 crore, Oppo 1 crore and Xiomi Rs 15 crore in the fund.

The Govt panel now ordered is pure vendetta politics against the Congress Party. What about the Parlimentary Committee to probe the Rafale Deal/The Demonitisation Fiasco etc. How about a All Party Panel to probe the identity of all donors to the electrol Bonds.

In my opinion , it would be a good oppurtunity to recruit a good ' non-Gandhi' leader for Congress.
This is the right time. With such taints one cannot expect revival. Victim card is not going to work.

They tried it with Robert Vadra and failed. Now with RGF. The GOI has lost its focus and direction in solving the problems that plague the nation. Diversionary tactics being used. How long will it work?
When the allegations against the GOI sticks to it, they start exposing their childlike psychology.

PM Cares fund is not managed by a individual on a bail in corruption case. so if it needs to investigated let it be investigated but not before funds gandhi foundations get . Why tax payers money is paid to these foundations. why are favours returned to criminals/china for the funds donated by them to these gandhi funds
