Vice President intervenes in DU quota row

New Delhi, Jul 10 (IANS): "Review the decision relating to quota for extra-curricular activities and continue the present quota procedure by earmarking seats for talented artists," Vice President Venkaiah Naidu advised Delhi University on Friday after many objected to the changes brought in by the varsity.

A government statement said Naidu intervened after receiving numerous requests on this issue from Members of Parliament and prominent artists. Naidu is also the DU Chancellor.

In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, the varsity decided against having sports and Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) trials, this year, leaving many upset.

Naidu's suggestions were made in a meeting with the Pro-Vice Chancellor & Dean Colleges of the Delhi University who called on the Vice President this morning. They briefed him about various issues including the contentious issue of Extra Curricular Activities quota for admission to first year college. Earlier he was briefed on this issue by HRD Secretary.

He was also briefed on Open Book Examination System and filling in of pending key appointments.

He suggested to the university to take prompt action on finalising the examination calendar as well as on filling up vacant positions in the University.
