Srinagar, Jul 12 (IANS): An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Sunday.
The encounter started Sunday morning after security forces got a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the Reban area of Sopore.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where the terrorists were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire triggering the encounter.
It is a joint operation by the police and the army.
"Joint Operation was launched today early morning on @JmuKmrPolice inputs. Cordon was laid & contact established. Firefight ensued. Joint Operation in progress," the army said in a statement.
