Panaji, Jul 15: State governor Satya Pal Malik summoned the chief minister on Wednesday July 15 along with the health minister Vishwajit Rane and other officials over the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the state and the inability of the government to control the virus.
According to a top official the governor is upset over the way the pandemic is handled in the state. "The governor is really upset with the way the state government has handled the pandemic. With an average of 100 positive cases over the past week and nine deaths in four days, he wants to find out why the government has not been able to manage the situation," the official said.
As the state saw the largest day's spike of 170 cases on Tuesday, it has worried the governor. Additionally, patients in their 30s and 40s succumbing to the virus has concerned the governor.
The meeting is scheduled at 4.30 pm and the chief minister will be accompanied by chief secretary Parimal Rai and health secretary Nila Mohanan.
The meeting will be held on the agenda to review the facilities and preparedness of the government in handling the pandemic and assess the overall situation.
