Engineer arrested taking Rs 1 lakh bribe in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jul 15 (IANS): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested an engineer while he was taking Rs one lakh as bribe in Jharkhand's Simdega district.

According to an official of the ACB, Arvind Kumar, executive engineer in the Rural Engineering Organisation (REO), was arrested while taking Rs 1 lakh cash from a private company's proprietor to pass a bill.

Hemant Kumar, proprietor of Lakshmi Enterprises, had lodged a complaint with the ACB against the engineer.

Hemant had alleged that the REO engineer had sought Rs 1 lakh to pass the bill for a road constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).

The ACB team laid a trap on Wednesday and caught Arvind Kumar red-handed.

Besides Rs 1 lakh, the ACB team also seized another Rs 80,000 from the possession of the executive engineer.
