Mangalore: Tech –Cultural Potpourri Regales Audience at Incident 2010

Mangalore, Feb 28: Incident Golden Jubilee Edition of NITK, Surathkal kicked things off with the spectacular inauguration at the Silver Jubilee Auditorium. The chief guest for the occasion was Gopal Hosur, IGP Western Region, Mangalore and the guest of honour was Dr Chandrashekar, managing director of Hutti Gold Mines.
A school sponsored by Lions Club Surathkal for special children put up a splendid dance performance. The students of NITK presented Aladdin-the musical in line with the theme of Incident, the mystical Arabian nights.
Slamdunk, the inter- college basketball fest with over 36 participating teams heated things up with a thrilling match between NITK and KMC. The evening came to a close with Bandish, the eastern musical night with six teams fighting it out amongst themselves and band ‘Tatva’ emerging victorious.
NITK boasts of an exotic private beach which is one of the main attractions at Incident. Incident 2010 witnessed a plethora of exciting beach sports and games with attractive prizes to be won. Sandemonium saw many outstation participants trying their hand at sand modelling.
The Incident Quiz Fest is one of the most elite quiz competitions in the country which attracts large participations every year. The Quiz Fest this year included wide variety of events like General Quiz, Pot Pourri, Dumb Charades, Biz-Tech Quiz, Sports and Entertainment Quiz and many more. The final of GenQ was hosted by hugely popular Quiz master Arun Mani. The Shoreline quiz with prize money of Rs 30,000 took place on the sun kissed shores much to the delight of the participants.
For the first time at Incident, there were adventure sports organized by professionals for the benefit of those seeking thrills. The INCI X-PERIENCE, allowed participants to try their hand at Zorbing, River crossing, Wall rappelling and much more!
Latest designs and trends in the fashion industry were displayed at NITK’S very own fashion show Haute Couture. Budding artistes and fashion designers were given a platform to showcase their talent.
Music lovers were treated to a lovely evening on the campus with a western acoustic music competition which drew over 10 teams. The teams displayed exceptional talent with their own variations of classics, with some experimenting with styles of Acapella.
Crossfade the pro DJ nite, saw a packed theatre dancing to groovy beats of DJ Oliver Molden, DJ Dual Drive and DJ NYK. With a perfect blend of house and Bollywood music the audience was left screaming for more.
The western music competition- PULSE witnessed a battle between over 30 bands from across the country. ’All The Fat Children’ from Christ college stole the show which kept audience on their feet and singing along.
A dunking contest saw some of the most athletic basketball players showcase their mettle. The much awaited Pro-Nite saw a captivating concert by Mother Jane and Led Zepplica. In support of the Asia’s number 1 rock band the audience sported painted faces in the traditional Kerala style.
For the first time ever, Incident 2010 brought down an international band for the Pro-Nite. Led Zepplica, the Led Zeppelin cover band from the USA, performed through the night, to an overflowing theatre with the audience singing along to all-time favourite Led Zeppelin tracks.
Promenade the dance competition attracted huge participation from all over. The exceptionally talents dancers and choreographers danced through the day and engaged the audience with mesmerizing solo dances, rhythmic duets and action filled group performances.
KK, the heartthrob of the Indian Music industry enchanted the Incident crowd with his latest hits leaving the audience enraptured by his energetic performance. The fest also witnessed a wide array of workshops to suit every taste with professionals in the field, conducting the same. The chocolate making workshop was a big hit with the participants with sinful cocoa delights. The kick boxing workshop and photography workshops drew enthusiastic audiences.
Incident 2010 was a huge success with over 120 hours of unlimited fun, more than 100 events.
