Mangalore: CFI Opposes Varsity College Students’ Protest against Lecturer Somayaji

Mangalore, Mar 1: Campus Front of India (CFI), Karnataka organized a protest in front of the University College here on Monday March 1 condemning the act of students backed by Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) protesting against a lecturer in the college.
CFI vice-president Nasir Mulky alleged that the students of the college under the due influence of government missionaries opposed the protest against the lecturer from English department Pattabhirama Somayaji by gathering major mass of students forcefully from their classrooms. They said that the act was an attack on freedom of speech granted by the Constitution. People of India are to be governed by Constitution and not by government, they asserted.
Mohammed Shakir, CFI state general secretary alleged that the students opposed a lecturer who openly expressed his views against Hinduism. He alleged that the ABVP, considered to be the power of students is now breaking the unity of students.
Thousif Ahmed, CFI president and Harsharaj Gatty, People’s Union for Civil Liberties also participated in the protest.
It can be recalled here that the Student Union of University College held a protest in the College premises on February 26 opposing the lecturer Pattabhirama Somayaji’s speech at the anti-cow slaughter protest organized by different political parties, PUCL, Komu Souharda Vedike, Jamat E Islami Hind, Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) and other like-minded organizations from all over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
