New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) India's second largest car maker Hyundai Motor reported a 42.8 percent increase in total sales last month to 54,617 units as against 38,235 units sold in February 2009.
During February, domestic sales grew 46.1 percent to 31,001 units while exports rose 38.8 percent to 23,616 vehicles.
"The sales continue on a strong pitch as we have seen a lot of pre-ponement of buying because of the anticipated rise in excise duty in the union budget during the last two months," said Arvind Saxena, director - Marketing and Sales.
"The two percent hike in excise duty which was subsequently levied might result in a correction in demand in the short run," added Saxena.
The segment-wise cumulative sales for the month of February 2010 were: A2 Segment (Santro, i10, Getz and i20) 50,515 units; A3 Segment (Accent and Verna) 4,051 units; A5 Segment (Sonata Transform) 50 units; and SUV Segment (Tucson) 1 unit.
