Hubli: Late Krishna Hangal Award for Vocalist Abhyankar, Singer Ratnamala

Hubli, Mar 2: Vocalist Sanjay Abhyankar and sugam sangeet veteran Ratnamala Prakash have been chosen for the coveted Late Krishna Hangal Rashtriya Puraskar instituted by Padma Vibhushan Dr Gangubai Hangal Music Foundation.

The award would be conferred on Abhyankar on Friday March 5 on the inaugural of the three-day Indian Classical Music, Dance and Folk Festival to be in Hubli and Dharwad to mark the 98th birth anniversary of Hindustani vocalist Gangubai Hangal. Another award in the same name has been newly instituted for sugam sangeet singers as Krishna herself was an accomplished sugam sangeet singer. The first award in the category would be conferred on Ratnamala Prakash of Bangalore. The award comprises citation and cash prize of Rs 10,000.

The event would be held at seven venues in Hubli and Dharwad during which various artistes would perform. The festival is organized in association with Hubli Arts Circle and department of Kannada and culture.
