Tumkur: Local BJP MP Basavaraj to Quit Electoral Politics

Tumkur, Mar 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suffered a setback in Tumkur district on Tuesday March 2 with its MP G S Basavaraj, announcing his decision to quit electoral politics.

Addressing press persons at his his home office at Gandhinagar here Basavaraj said that he had decided not to contest any election in future, but refused give any reason for his decision. However, I would continue to serve people, he maintained.

Basavaraj, a senior leader from the Lingayat community, represented Tumkur in the Lok Sabha for three terms as Congress leader and had joined the BJP on the eve of the last Lok Sabha election. Subsequently, he won on the BJP ticket and became MP for the fourth term.
