Boy's body recovered from pond in Bengal's Chopra


Kolkata, Jul 20 (IANS): The body of a boy was recovered on Monday from a pond in the area where an young girl was found dead on Sunday. It was found in the Chopra police station area of Islampur in the North Dinajpur district of West Bengal.

"Inquest has been conducted by a magistrate and videography of the post-mortem will be done," the police said.

"The Police is investigating both the cases and looking into all possible aspects of the incident, including social ostracism, parental pressure and role played by some persons in hiding, misleading and diverting the attention from the actual incident," the police tweeted.

On Sunday, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in North Dinajpur's Chopra. Her body was found near the pond.

The girl had appeared in the Class X state board examination this year, the locals said.

The irate locals torched vehicles, destroyed police vans and attacked cops on Sunday evening protesting against the death. As many as 30 people, including some police personnel, were injured in the incident.
