Delhi records 1,349 Covid cases, 27 deaths in 24 hrs


New Delhi, Jul 21 (IANS): With 1,349 new coronavirus cases and 27 deaths in the last 24 hours, the national capital now has a total tally of 1,25,096 cases and 3,690 deaths on Tuesday.

According to the Delhi government's daily health bulletin, as many as 1,06,118 people have recovered, almost seven times the number of active cases which stand at 15,288. A total of 1,200 patients recovered in the last 24 hours.

On June 23, the city had witnessed the highest single-day peak of 3,947 cases, but the number has come down steadily since then despite the number of tests increasing.

Testing numbers in the city have also gone up since the commencement of rapid antigen tests last month. Over 5,651 RT-PCR, CBNAAT and TrueNat and 15,201 rapid antigen Covid-19 tests were conducted on Tuesday.

Currently, 3,517 beds are occupied in hospitals out of a total capacity of 15,475 beds, 2,136 in the dedicated COVID Care Centres out of 9,454 and 160 beds in the dedicated COVID Health Centres as against the availability of 554 total beds. Over 8,126 people are under home isolation.

The number of containment zones in the capitals stands at 689 at present.

Earlier, a serological survey conducted by the National Centre for Disease Control in collaboration with the Delhi government was released. It estimates the prevalence of the infection in the general community of the national capital.

Nearly six months into the pandemic, 22.86 per cent people are affected, while 77 per cent of the population is still susceptible. As many as 21,387 samples were collected during the survey.

For all the 11 districts of Delhi, survey teams were formed, blood samples were collected from selected individuals after taking written informed consent and then their sera were tested for IgG antibodies and infection using 'COVID KAVACH ELISA' approved by Indian Council for Medical Research.

Out of the total districts, eight have sero-prevalence of more than 20 per cent. In Central, North-East, North and Shahdara districts, the sero-prevalence is 27 per cent.

Delhi's South-West area has 12.95 per cent sero-prevalence, the least in the city, followed by South and West Delhi at 18.61 per cent and 19.13 per cent, respectively.
