Now Ashoka Road caves in amid heavy downpour


New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): Due to heavy rain on Wednesday, a part of Ashoka Road in central Delhi caved in disrupting traffic on the stretch. The road was damaged near 10, Ashoka Road probably due to the sinking of the storm water drainage system, Delhi Traffic Police said.

"Extent of damage is around 10 feet long. Barricading done at Ashoka Road at Windsor Place and Andhra Bhawan. Traffic is not allowed on the stretch between Windsor Place roundabout to Jaswant Singh roundabout on Ashoka Road," said a senior police officer.

Traffic was also affected on Girdhari Lal Marg, Guru Ravidass Marg, under Mayapuri flyover, under Prahlad Pur Flyover, from Dhaula Kuan to Gurugram, Naraina to Loha Mandi, and Mahipalpur due to waterlogging.

Obstruction in traffic from Chirag Delhi towards Nehru Place due to breakdown of a bus near Savitri cinema was also reported.

Also, waterlogging was reported near WHO building on the Ring Road towards Bhairon Marg. On Tuesday a portion of Bhairon Marg had caved in.

The traffic police also advised motorists to use DND and Barapullah flyover to reach Ashram and south Delhi.
