Modi tells BJP's new RS MPs to use social media to connect

New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met BJP Rajya Sabha MPs who took oath on Wednesday, maintaining social distancing, when he strongly advocated for use of the social media by the new members of the upper house.

The Prime Minister urged them not just to be limited to the upper house but also be active in the field. "Urged MPs to keep themselves updated with latest policy issues. Also emphasised on being effective on the floor of the House as well as in the field, among people," said the Prime Minister.

PM Modi also stressed the need for constantly connecting with the people by embracing the latest technology as well as social media as means to do so, during his talk with the new BJP Rajya Sabha MPs.

The group had 18 BJP MPs who were administered the oath on Wednesday by Rajya Sabha chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu. That included the recent turncoat Jyotiraditya Scindia who left Congress to join the BJP in a bid to topple the Kamal Nath Government in Madhya Pradesh.

PM called it an "excellent interaction" where he heard them and appreciated their "passion towards public service".

"This is a group of MPs who are diverse and will certainly make effective contributions to Parliamentary proceedings," he said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP President J.P. Nadda were also present during the interaction.
