Public Toilet at Freedom Fighter Memorial?

Patna, March 6 (IANS) Why has a toilet come up where revolutionary freedom fighter Khudiram Bose was cremated? A Bihar legislator wants to know, and the state government says it will get to the bottom of the matter.

Independent legislator Kishore Kumar Munna raised the issue in the assembly Friday, asking the government to protect the memorial of Bose, who the British hanged in 1908 in Muzaffarpur district.

Official sources said the public toilet was constructed at the Chandwara burning ghat in Muzaffarpur where Bose was cremated.

"The toilet was constructed about 10 years ago," Poshan Mahto, a local civic body member, Saturday told IANS on phone from Muzaffarpur, about 70 km from here.

Muzaffarpur municipal commissioner Awadesh Kumar has directed the district administration to inquire into the matter.

Khudiram Bose was one of the youngest revolutionaries in the early Indian independence movement and was sent to the gallows at the age of 19 years.
