Mangalore, Mar 9: Pramod Mutalik, leader of the Sri Rama Sene, expressed his sympathy with Prasad Attavar by visiting him in jail on Tuesday March 9. Prasad was arrested on charges of links with underworld don Ravi Poojary by the Kadri police.
The meeting between Mutalik and Prasad sent shock waves and led to speculation that this might be a plan to term the arrest a frame-up and a conspiracy against the Sri Rama Sene.
Speaking to the media, Mutalik said that he has faith in the judiciary and it will prove Prasad’s innocence. “There is some conspiracy to curb our Hindutva activities and Prasad will be proved innocent by the judiciary”, he said adding that the truth will come out soon after his release.
Sources in jail said that Mutalik spent nearly 30 minutes with Prasad and discussed the case. According to a Sri Rama Sene activist, during the meeting, Prasad said that the police framed him in the case.
A Sri Rama Sene source said that Mutalik was in the city to participate in a programme as well as to meet Prasad.
Mutalik also spoke with the jailer and other officials about Prasad’s safety in jail. Sources said that Mutalik will hold a meeting with local activists and leaders about the arrest of Prasad.
Kadri police arrested him on Monday March 1 and produced him before the court on Tuesday March 2, where he was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
