Mumbai, Jul 30: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has once again amended the protocols with regard to sealing of buildings where coronavirus patients are detected. The revised protocol issued on Wednesday, July 29 stated that the civic body would completely seal a building only if more than three positive cases were reported.
A senior officer from R South Ward said, “If three or more Covid-19 cases are reported from a building, then the civic body will seal a building completely. If fewer than three cases are reported, then civic officials will only seal a particular floor of the building and no restriction will be imposed on the movement of other residents."
The decision was taken after citizens complained after the decision issued by BMC that said that a building located in the western suburb after a single positive case was detected refraining movement of the residents for 14 days. Following this, a guideline was issued that stated a building would be completely sealed if a case was detected.
The residents expressed the inconveniences faced in terms of work or purchasing groceries. The local politicians approached Suresh Kakani, the Additional Municipal Commissioner to apprise him of the problems citizens were facing.
“Residents will face a lot of problems if an entire building is sealed if one infection case was reported. As the state government has relaxed the lockdown, many offices and businesses have resumed. If an entire building is sealed then nobody can go out, which will, in turn, affect their work or businesses,” Abhishek Ghosalkar, Shiv Sena leader and former corporator from Dahisar said.
