Chennai, Jul 30 (IANS): Tamil Nadu has reported 5,864 new cases of COVID-19, pushing the state's tally to 239,978, the Health Department said on Thursday.
A total number of 5,295 persons were discharged from various hospitals taking the total number of recoveries to 178,178.
The number of active Covid cases in the state after taking into account the cured and dead stands at 57,962.
The state has recorded 97 Covid fatalities taking the total toll to 3,838.
The number of infected children in the state in the age group 0-12 went up to 11,970.
The state capital Chennai continued to head the COVID-19 infection table with 1,175 persons testing positive for the virus and the total tally stands at 98,767 The active cases in the city stands at 12,785 while the total number of coronavirus patients discharged in Chennai stood at 1,126.
