Mangalore, Mar 10:
A group of men allegedly assaulted an officer of the Mescom in Ullal after an unfortunate death of a young labourer by electrocution on Wednesday March 10.

The unfortunate victim has been identified as Mohammad Shareef (19), son of Abdul Lateef, resident of an area near Summer Sands. The enraged group comprising the deceased’s relatives and other locals assaulted the concerned official from Mescom alleging the officials of gross negligence.

Shareef was electrocuted while he was undertaking the construction work of a house near Ullal Darga. He succumbed on the spot to a shock from dangerously protruding electrical wire in a pole.

After hearing the news of the youth’s death a group that barged into Ullal municipality office questioning the gross negligence of the Mescom, was further enraged as officer Premanand could not provide them with a satisfactory answer. Following the argument, the group allegedly assaulted the officer.

The death and assault following the incident created a tensed atmosphere at Ullal. Soon police lathicharged the mob to control the situation and arrested 23 from the spot.

The deceased labourer is from a poor family and was into construction works to supplement the family of three sisters and parents.

I have come across many such incidents over the years. Earlier it was due to primitive technology but the situation should have improved in current times. It is sad the Mescom is not taking this seriously. There is no value for human life and this is certainly not acceptable. Mescom should be proactive in preventing this from happening in the future and also should compensate the victim's family adequately.

high time we start making officials responsible for this find out who is incharge of these things and punish them so that everybody realises responsibility.similarly for the fire tragedy in bangalore arrest the official who has given the licence to that building breaking all norms.that is the only way a common mans intrest will be safeguarded.no point blaming congress or bjp, officials still the same and we know how politicians are all want power but not responsibility
