Mumbai, Aug 1: At a prominent builder's site in Manpada-Majiwada, eighty-six construction workers tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, July 31.
The situation came to light after the Thane Small Scale Industries Association complained to the civic chief that the officials harassed and threatened to close the factory if they do not conduct RT-PCR test on their employees.
Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commissioner said that 536 workers were tested for the virus of which 86 of them turned positive. Dr Vipin Sharma, municipal commissioner has compelled all the developers in the city with the workers staying on-site to undergo COVID test within a week.
The builders expressed that the decision would lead to a financial crisis and sought assistance.
"We are taking adequate precautions and conducting tests. There are nearly 200 workers in most sites," a developer said.
