Mangaluru, Aug 3: The festival of Raksha Bandhan is here. Raksha Bandhan, a festival where sisters offer respects to their brothers, and the brothers in return offer a gift and promise to extend protection to them all through their lives, is being celebrated all over the world on Monday August 3.

This time, people have purchased Rakhis of different colours, sizes and price range. However, most of them have not been sending the Rakhis this time to their brothers by post or courier. Because, unlike in previous years when brothers and sisters working elsewhere were busy and had little time for Raksha Bandhan formalities, most of them are available at home this time as they are working from their hometown, thanks to coronavirus infection.

Many of the sisters have got an opportunity to perform Arati to their brothers, apply Tilak to their foreheads, sprinkle holy water, offer sweets and tie the Rakhi around their wrists personally after a long gap. Many of them are thrilled at being able to participate personally in the ritual instead of depending on postal and courier services.

It is learnt that the postal department this time had undertaken special drive to deliver Rakhis booked through the department's website to addresses on Sunday. The postal staff agree that Rakhis sent by post this time are considerably less as compared to previous year.
