Udupi: Drawing Teacher Damodar Acharya Chosen for Kala Nidhi Award

Udupi, Mar 13: Kaa Vaa Acharya Vidhyarthi Trust, Shirva, has chosen Damodar L Acharya, the drawing teacher of Nittoor High School for the sixth Kala Nidhi award to be conferred in a function to be held at Nittoor High School on Saturday March 13.
The Trust has been honouring the devoted drawing teachers from Kasargod, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts over the years.
Nittoor High School managing committee chairman Jagjeevandas Shetty will preside over the programame. The headmaster of Nittoor High School, K Subramanya Bhat, city-based creators proprietor Chandrakanth S, trust managing-director Kaa Vaa Acharya will be present. The arts exhibition of Damodar Acharya and live demonstration of glass painting will be held on the occasion.
Acharya is a multi-faceted personality. He is a dedicated teacher who has taught his pupil the art of drawing for many years. His drawing teacher G R Upadyaya was his inspiration
He hails from a lineage family of sculptors. He is the son of Laxman and Bhavani Acharya couple, residents of Palimar, near here. ‘The poverty in my family was so acute that I had to discontinue studies after Class V, but I was determined to earn my living, in order to study further,’ said Damodar Acharya. He has done B.Com from Poornaprajna Evening College. He was qualified in arts through Fine Arts Institute, here.
Damodar has been an expert in oil painting, water painting and fine arts. His expert hands have experimented with all types of paintings including landscapes, traditional art and also recent arts. His paintings on water colour on mythological episodes in post card size paper are indeed remarkable. He has painted series of arts on the practices of Tulunadu worship and Yakshagana which are also unique. He has been versatile in glass printing and glass painting. His expertise in paper craft has been identified by Education department.
He has organized 4 solo arts exhibition under the title Varna Vasantha, while one was sponsored by Karnataka Lalit Kala Academy. He has exhibited his paintings in over 12 general arts exhibition in Karnataka and his arts have made its impact during Chitra Sante, held in Bangalore. He has won Anche Kuncha competitions that are organized by Shanthi Vana Trust, Dharmasthala, for three consecutive times. He also bagged Award in national level arts competitions held at Hosanagar, during Vishwa Gho SammelanHe has vivid interest in acting, direction and also a playwright.
Damodar Acharya will join other elite award recipients Eshwar N Joshi of Udupi, Ganesh Somayaji of Mangalore, Gopadkar Upadyaya Moodubelle and M S Purushottam of Puttur.
