Mangalore: Sampangi Still Not Free of Legal Scrutiny – Lokayukta

Mangalore, Mar 14: In reply to queries raised by the press persons, Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, said here on Saturday March 13 that the clean chit given to MLA Sampangi by the house committee of the state legislature will have no bearing whatsoever in the court case filed against him. It may be recalled that Kolar Gold Field MLA, Y Sampangi from the BJP, was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police on January 29, 2009 from near the Legislators’ Home, while allegedly accepting bribe from a man named Farooq, to assist him come out of a legal wrangle.

Hegde clarified that the house committees have no locus standi to decide criminal cases. The Lokayukta has already filed a charge sheet in the court against Sampangi, and the court will decide the case, he insisted.
