B'desh mountaineer killed in road mishap

Dhaka, Aug 7 (IANS): A 33-year-old mountaineer from Bangladesh was killed in a road accident on the Lake road in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar here on Friday, police said.

Sub-Inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Ibrahim confirmed the incident to IANS, saying, "A private car pushed Reshma Nahar Ratna from behind, while she was cycling on the Lake road at around 9 a.m."

"Police rushed to the spot and took the victim to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital where the doctor declared her dead," he added.

Reshma started her journey of mountaineering by climbing the peak of Keokradong hill in Bangladesh in 2016.

She also participated in the expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, and Mount Kenya, the second-highest of the continent in 2018.

In 2019, Reshma successfully summited two mountains named Stok Kanri (6,153 metres) on August 24 and Kang Yatse II (6,250 metres) on August 30 in Ladakh, India.

She also participated in the expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, and Mount Kenya, the second-highest of the continent in 2018.
