Mangaluru, Aug 10: Sri Krishna Janmashtami, or the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna, always is a mixture of fun and devotion. People find happiness in elaborately decorating their houses, making flower cradles for seating Baby Krishna, singing devotional songs, chanting Vishnu Sahasranama to appease the god, besides showering Tulsi twigs which are considered dear, on the Lord. Arghya (libation) is also offered to the Lord.

As a number of delicacies are made and distributed, this festival, in particular, is very much loved by even the children. Elaborate arrangements are made to celebrate the occasion, Krishna costume contest, and stage shows are also held. People also visit temples and invoke the Lord's blessings.

However, the view of the celebration and festivity this year has completely changed. The markets are not abuzz with people willing to buy flowers, garlands, Tulsi twigs etc. The fear of coronavirus pandemic is evident in the markets where the flower vendors, those who prepare and sell Kotte or Mude, and sellers of different vegetables are witnessing a sharp fall in business. The number of sellers has also suffered as the customers are scarce.

In a nutshell, with the fun and frolic being absent, the devotees are left praying to the Lord to drive away coronavirus so that they can resume celebrating festivals meaningfully.
