Mangalore: Second PU Exams from Today

Mangalore, Mar 18: The second pre university examinations are being held across the state from today. The department of PU education has taken all necessary steps to ensure that the examinations are held in a free and fair manner. The examinations are slated to be held from March 18 to 31.
Additional vigilance squads have been deputed to all the districts to help the districts to conduct the examinations without giving scope for any malpractices. This time, exclusive women’s vigilance cells have been formed for the first time. 4,27,912 regular students, 1,77,688 students attempting the examination for second or more time, and 46,171 private students have registered themselves for this examination.
All the examination centres are off-limit for mobiles and those using mobile phones will be subjected to disciplinary action. Helpline set up by the department at 080-23366778 and 23366779 will function till March 31, from 8 am to 1 pm, to enable the students to get their doubts cleared. PU education department director, S Shankarnarayan, has requested the students through a press release, not to get disturbed by rumours that may be spread about the question papers having been leaked. He has asked the concerned to inform the department, the details of the people spreading such baseless rumours.
He said that the department will take action as soon as the concerned people or teachers convey the information to it. He has also asked the students facing problems in appearing for the examinations, either due to loss of hall tickets or for any other reasons, to contact the helpline and find solution for their problems.
In Dakshina Kannada district, 29,168 students are appearing for the examination through 45 centres. In Udupi district, the number of students appearing for the examination is 15,300. Prohibitory orders are in place upto a radius of 200 metres from the respective examination centres. On the first day, the students took up chemistry/accountancy examinations.
