Mangalore, Mar 18:  The Lokayukta officials conducted raids on two government officials in Udupi and in the city on Thursday March 18, and found property and cash exceeding their income.

The raid was conducted by Sadananda Vernekar, deputy superintendent of police, Lokayutka department, and his team on the Udupi residence of N T Rajagopal, executive engineer, Minor Irrigation Department in the city.

The team has also detected four houses constructed in Ambagilu, Kannarapadi, Kinnibagilu in Udupi district, and a house in Shimoga district belonging to Rajagopal. The team also found gold and silver ornaments at the house.

The team later raided the minor irrigation department office in the city where it found two credit cards and Rs 20,000 in cash.

In another raid conducted by Udupi Lokayukta deputy superintendent of police Prabhudeva Mane on the house of Parameshwara, sub-registrar of Udupi, he was found to own two houses, four commercial complexes, 20 cents of land, and Rs 92,000 cash, which is more than his actual income.

The total value of properties gained through dishonest means is expected to be published by Justice N Santhosh Hegde, Lokayukta of the state.

Mr. Ramesh You still think you are doing the right thing, and take pride in your bargaining power instead of eradicating bribery you are happy to get your work done by bribing. So what's wrong in stealing, creating other crime's hope you may justify that also. What a shamefull state of affair's, God only has intervene.

    Mr. Jawar,

The market rate for bribing is just like negotiating fish in the fish market. In fish market, i straight away ask for 50% of the asked price. Some times i will get it, and some times the fisherwoman will lose her temper and shout back at me. In bribing govt employees, it is all about putting chappals, wearing mundu or cheap pant with shirt outside, wearing cheap watch and displaying cheap mobile. And then asking for 50% of what govt employee is asking. At least, they will not shout back like fisher woman (they are more dignified while asking for bribe), and if you are lucky, you can get below market rate this way, especially if you call them "sir".

Mr. Ramesh every one knows that with out paying bribes things cannot be done, all the Indian's know that. That is what Lokayukta is trying to do here, to find out how much bribe these people have amassed. Next time when you are going to pay a bribe just comment here how much you are paying to whom and for what, so that the reader's will be able to know the market rate's.

When professionals like executive engineers or IAS officers in govt dept, command a bribe, then it is pardonable when our lowly police demand bribe. Why can't people realize that bribing is a necessary evil in india. If you don't bribe your file will never move. Bribing is part of our culture, and we should all remove the mark of guilt or crime associated with bribing. Everybody bribes in india. I have bribed so many times before, and will continue to bribe, to get my job done in India.

Bribing will only increase and not reduce in India and people like Santhosh Hegde are living in an idealistic world. He cannot eradicate bribing culture. Because, if i do not bribe, then some other gentlemen will offer bribe to official and get his job done, and i will be left behind. We should all strive to remove the stigma of shame, and guilt in our culture with respect to bribe. Bribe and get your job done. Jai hind!

Hope trial of these accused persons will be conducted in an open court, not paralel trial in speakers chamber of Karnataka assembly, like Sampangi case.

In US, conviction rate in a criminal case is 95%, in India its less than 5%, that is one of the major reason for the thugery we find in Mangalore nowadays.

We need policemen who read and interpret law, atleast one in a police station.

Not brutes who make "dandiya dance", like they did on peaceful protesters of church attack in mangalore recently.

Hope Justice Somashekar Commission will expose light on this in detail... like reason for this behaviour if any.

Brilliant job be the entire team. This is not an easy task, getting into someone's house and going through the documents and items along side the occupants crying and screaming at them. We have to honor and congratulate the entire lokayukta team and the leaders.

This is just the tip of the ice-berg. This is happening openly, in a big way, in all the sub-register offices in India.
