New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANSlife): With hashtags like #vocal4handmade, #vocalforlocal, #makeinindia trending on social media and digital platforms, one doesn't need any encouragement to dress desi this Independence Day.
With Covid-19 restrictions festivities and public gathering have been suspended; so celebrations like the hoisting the flag at schools and society buildings are restricted. But that shouldn't dampen your spirits or affect your patriotism. To celebrate the big day, enthusiasts can choose to dress up keeping in mind the colours of the Indian flag.
The top band in Saffron colour, indicates the strength and courage of the country; the middle white band indicates peace and truth with the Dharma Chakra; green stands for fertility, growth and the auspiciousness of the land.
Nelson Jaffery, Head of Design Liva and Abhishek Yadav, Design Head, Spykar Lifestyles share styling tips to help you sport a traditional yet cool style.
The Evergreen white kurta with denims
If simplicity is on your mind, choose a white kurta with blue denims and carry a blue/saffron stole or dupatta with it. The outfit is a classic for both men and women. Women can accessorise with green/saffron earrings and opt for silver juttis. Men can choose to wear tri-colours brooches which never go out of trend.
Get nostalgic with a Handloom Sari
Handloom is the 'It' word, and sarees from every region are in fashion. Try out a different drape, pattern or embroidery. This 9 yards of fabric, passed on from generation-to-generation holds stories of our ancestors and our heritage. You needn't choose one in saffron or green; a sari is after all the national garment.
THE CONTEMPORARY TWIST
Modern fashionistas can opt for Western outfit with Indian sensibilities- the sari-gown or the anarkali-dress. Opt for bandhanis, leheriyas, block prints or regional prints which subtly incorporate white, saffron and green hues. Aztec, floral and other nature inspired ones can be a great option.
Tri-colour Makeup & Accessories
Wearing accessories that in tricolour add a hint of patriotism to your regular style. Choose from bangles or nail art of an interesting kitsch tri-colour look. You can also amp up your look with a tri-colour inspired makeup look. "Prep your eyes with a white base to make your eye shadows pop. Take a deep orange eyeshadow into the crease as a transition and blend it using a fluffy blending brush. Then take a clean fluffy blending brush and blend the harsh edges. Apply a white eye shadow on the eyelids area, just below the crease line. Flicked it up with a beautiful green cat liner and to add a little drama, you can also add green glitter on top. Finally finished with a blue kohl on the waterline," suggests Priya Sureka, Make up head at Enrich.
