Bengaluru, Aug 17: During the last some days, the state as a whole and coastal areas in particular, had experienced lesser rainfall. The rain however has resumed some of its lost steam since Sunday. The rainfall has intensified in Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru and some districts in north Karnataka. Yellow alert has been announced for coastal districts apart from Kodagu and north Karnataka districts on Monday, hinting about an increase in the volume of rainfall.

The yellow alert will be mainly in operation for three days in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts as atmospheric pressure in the Bay of Bengal has slumped. In addition to coastal districts, the other districts where the rainfall is expected to go up are Kodagu, Vijayapura, Koppal, Yadagiri, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Dharwad, Belagavi, Gadag and Bagalkot. Yellow alert has also been sounded for these districts today. Fear of floods has gripped villages of Belagavi, Bagalkot, and Raichur districts that are located by the side of the river as Maharashtra has been experiencing heavy rainfall since the last two days.

The rainfall will be quite high in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada till August 19. The fishermen have been warned not to enter the sea. Rain fury has been intense also in Chikkamagaluru, a Malnad region district. Two houses at Horatti and Kalmane villages in Mudigere taluk have suffered heavy damages due to rain.

The quantum of rainfall has been quite high in Kodagu since Sunday, where yellow alert has been issued for August 17 and 18. Several bridges across rivers Ghataprabha, Krishna and Malaprabha have been submerged as these rivers are overflowing. River Krishna is getting a lot of inflow due to heavy rain in Maharashtra as a result of which the threat of floods looms large.
