Mangalore, Mar 21:  The convocation of the IV batch of theology for the laity and religious was held at Sacred Heart Hall, St Joseph’s Seminary in Jeppu on Saturday March 20.

Dr Victor Machado, rector of St Joseph’s Seminary presented the certificates as chief guest of the programme. In his address, Machado said that learning is a process which is not based on age. Graduating is a step of learning and every one should keep on the process even after graduation, he said and added that theology is a vast subject of which the students will study a part during the course. This study will lead them to achieve more in the field of theology.

Dr Victor Machado presented certificates to 24 students of the batch of theology for laity.

Fr Ronald Serrao, dean of theology welcoming the gathering said that the course of two years on theology for laity and religious has been introduced with the purpose to equip the laity with basic and sound knowledge of theology.

Students of the batch, Walter Coelho and Raymond D’Cunha presented their opinion on the classes.

The programme began with the prayer song and seminary choir presented a choral presentation during the programme. Resident theology students and others participated in the programme.

The course was initiated by the Jeppu Seminary in 2002 with the intention that there should be no monopoly of priests and religions on theology. The classes are held on Saturdays from July to March.

    Dear friends,

Its an excellent initiative by St. Joseph's Seminary. Theology is primarily a contentious subject in the modern philosophical world and the Catholic Church faced lack of synergy between Clergy and Laity on the subject due to which many times Clergy had to negotiate with the Laity away from real values. By incorporating the Laity into the system, I hope that the missing link can be established.
