Beltangady, Aug 18: It has been the experience of many living in cities like Bengaluru that because of traffic jams and office work pressure, their minds always search for rest and recuperation. A person from the city, who was under immense pressure when living in the city, has now built a house in the midst of the forest and living here.

Shivakumar (38), a native of Byrasandra in Tumakuru district, with the well-built appearance and a face which appears like he always is thinking about something, had done well in computers. He had worked for big companies like Cisco, HP, I Seva, and American Online companies where he adorned high-level positions. He worked in Bengaluru for two decades and also toured the entire country during that period.

Getting fed up by the boredom of busy city life, he came to Didupe, a small hamlet in Malavanthige village in Beltangady taluk, after getting attracted by picturesque greenery here. Shivakumar is living by building a house inside a forest at Kadamagundi in Didupe. He lives along with his pet dog. He has grown areca nut and cocoa inside the forest in one and a half acres of land. Shivakumar has a mother, elder sister, and a younger sister. His elder sister is a professor while the younger one manages an educational institute. Shivakumar has decided to live inside the forest all his life.

Shivakumar worships nature and has won the appreciation of villagers within a short time. He conducts agriculture and also a business. In order to help the villagers to escape from the dubious ways of middlemen, he has been teaching them simple techniques. He also conducts information workshops on conducting agriculture and business.

Shivakumar has arranged for tourists to stay in the houses of a few farmers and conducts village tourism for those who want to enjoy nature. Several teams have already come here, stayed at Didupe and returned. Shivakumar lays emphasis on tourism devoid of vices. In his village tourism, plastic and addictions have no place.

Shivakumar stands out as a model even though many have returned to their homes because of lockdown. He is not attracted to city life where he can earn much more, because of his desire to lead a simple life in the midst of nature.
