'Compensate kin of contract bank employees dying of Covid-19'


Chennai, Aug 19 (IANS): The All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) on Wednesday urged Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to provide compensation to the families of contract employees of banks who had died due to Covid-19 pandemic.

In a letter to Sitharaman, AIBEA General Secretary C.H. Venkatachalam, citing the notification issued by Ministry of Shipping, urged the Central government to issue an advisory/guideline to the Indian Banks' Association and banks to extend the compensation scheme to contract employees and others like jewel appraisers, deposit collectors, cost to company employees, business correspondents/bank 'mitras', and temporary and casual employees.

He said the Ministry of Shipping had advised all Port Trusts that dependents/legal heirs of all contract emloyees employed in the ports are eligible for the ex gratia/ compensation upon the death of such contract employees due to Covid-19.
