Udupi: Parishat to Publish Region-wise Glossary – Nallur Prasad

Udupi, Mar 22: State Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Dr Nallur Prasad, said that the Parishat has taken up a project of publishing an exhaustive dictionary and also region-wise glossary with the specific objective of saving the words from slinking into the oblivion without being noticed by anyone.

Addressing the gathering after presiding over the valedictory function of the final day of the two-day district level Kannada Sahitya Sammelan held in the premises of Ambalpady temple on Sunday March 21, Prasad said that a sum of one crore rupees had been sanctioned for the dictionary project and that Rs 50 lac would be spent for the reprinting of the dictionary. “The regional glossary will be created with the help of 40 scholars drawn from all the fields. Dr K V Narayan will be the editor of the glossary,” he revealed.

Dr Nallur said that the Chief Minister has been supportive of the projects taken up by the Parishat. “He has released Rs 1.45 crore so far for the Sahitya Sammelan, one crore rupees for the dictionary and one crore rupees for research. We have facilitated the publication of four books at the district level,” he informed.  He called upon the Kannadigas to wholeheartedly support the efforts of the Parishat to hold village level programmes after the taluk and revenue division level programmes, which are being undertaken with a view to ward off the threats Kannada language has been facing.

In his valedictory address, veteran scholar, Bannanje Govindacharya, opined that Kannada can hope to survive only if the English medium schools are restrained. He advised people not to neglect Kannada.

President of the Sammelan, Dr U P Upadhyaya, conveyed his best wishes to the Kannadigas. Temple trustee, Ni Bee Vijay Ballal, Dr Susheela Upadhyaya, district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Ambatanaya Mudrady, office bearers, Gananath Yekkar, Ramanand Kamat, Vikramarjun Hegde, Bhuvanaprasad Hegde etc., were present.

Prof Heranje Krishna Bhat presented the programme. Dr Padmanabh Kekunnaya proposed vote of thanks.
