Udupi, Mar 23: Karavali Janapada Vaibhava, programme showcasing coastal district’s cultural splendour was held at Lions Club Bhavan, Brahmagiri here on Tuesday March 23.  The programme was organized under the aegis of Karnataka Janapada Academy, Bangalore, NSS of Mangalore University, Lions Club, Udupi, Tulu Sahitya Academy, Konkani Sahitya Academy, Beary Sahitya Academy, Post Graduation Studies of Government First Grade College, Tenka Nidiyoor and taluk unit of Karnataka Sahitya Parishat.
 
MLA Raghupati Bhat inaugurated the programme.

 
Speaking on the occasion, Bhat said that in the backdrop of coastal youth being lured into western culture such programmes that convey the rich cultural heritage of coastal district should be held very often to create further interest among the youth. 

In the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, age-old tradition of drum beatings by ST communities is neglected, in the guise of shunning untouchability. The state has been contemplating on setting up Janapad University, said MLA.
 
The district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Ambatanaya Mudrady, Janapada scholar Bannanje Babu Amin and Lions Club president N Rajagopalan among others were the chief guests.
 
Professor G Yoganand, principal of Government First Grade College, Tenka Nidiyoor presided.
 
Dr Gananath Yekkar, NSS co-ordinator of MU welcomed the gathering.  Prasadswamy, registrar of Karnataka Janapada Academy, Bangalore delivered the introductory address.  Dr Shalini Raghunath, member of district Janapada Academy proposed the vote of thanks.  Professor Pratapchandra Shetty, lecturer of Government First Grade College, Tenka Nidiyoor, compered the programme.
