Women's Reservation will Provoke Young Men to Whistle in Parliament - Mulayam

Lucknow, March 24 (IANS) Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav has said the women's reservation bill, if passed, would "provoke young men to whistle" in parliament.

Asked to comment on the women's reservation bill, he told a TV channel here Tuesday, "If the women's reservation bill were to be passed in its existing form, it would result in flooding the parliament and state legislatures with wives of government officials and women connected with big industrial houses, thereby provoking young men to indulge in eve-teasing."

Expressing shock and dismay over the remark, state ruling party chief and cooperatives minister Swami Prasad Maurya said in a statement issued here late night: "Such a remark simply reflects the utter contempt and disrespect that the SP chief has for women ; it is really shocking".

Former Lucknow University vice chancellor Prof. Roop Rekha Verma, who is also a women's activist, termed Mulayam's remark as "ridiculous" and "disgusting".

This Mulayam is a disgusting and Dirty Brat. He talks always BS. He does not know he also has got a wife at home. I am sure someone has started whistling at her, so he thinks for everyone it is the same. This person should be thrown our of politics. Women should slipper this person in Public.

Mulayam Singhji, it will also help the general public since most of the male parliamentarians will attend the parliament. Women are good home makers and they will definitely bring the erring male MLAs to right direction. And for whistling, it is atleast better than boobooing and throwing chairs and clutter. Later on a bill should be passed for women to carry jaadu and belan. Time will tell, there will be sure improvement in our democracy.
