Mangaluru, Aug 29: A major accident took place on Pumpwell flyover in the night on Saturday, August 29 after a car speeding lost control and overturned. Students who were in the car had a miraculous escape.

The car involved in the accident was a Kerala registration Maruthi A-Star car which overturned in the middle of the flyover. The protective sidewall of the flyover prevented the car from falling down.

It is learnt that the accident occurred when three students from Kasaragod were returning to their native after dropping one of their friends to KSRTC bus stop at Bejai in the city.

The car was completely damaged in the accident. The mishap caused a traffic jam on the flyover for an hour. Personnel from south traffic police station immediately reached the spot and made arrangements for smooth flow of traffic on the flyover.

I travel on this famed Pumpwell flyover everyday. I often worry about an impending accident cause the surface is uneven. Certain parts of the flyover has the old road and the newly built road is not good enough. It is so uneven and I feel the filled in earth is already sinking. There is a pothole already and I hope Mr. Navyug has noticed the same. Towards Gorigudda end of flyover, storm water collects and poor two wheeler riders get a free splash often. It is my earnest request to our respected elected representatives that they make a visit to the flyover, and make our daily journey safer.

There have been many many accidents at this stretch in the past as well. There might be other reasons. Can Highway authority study whether there is defect in the design. Presume soon there will be a solution or shall we have to wait for more accidents/deaths?

Now when the KL vehicles enter DK we have to get ready for accidents anytime, anywhere, anyhow. They drink and drive specially students, yesterday two girls on a two Wheeler abusing a pedestrian for crossing on the zebra crossing. They do not know that pedestrians right to cross on zebra crossing. The vehicles have to stop or go slow while using the zebra crossing. That is the state of affairs.

Why accidents are taking place on the flyover. Before the construction of the flyover there was a Khalsa in that place. It was removed and as promised have they installed the same. Instal the same first then all will be right.

In God's own country, the condition of bars and pubs is pathetic. Food is just egg quickies and fish. In star hotels too, you don't get good brands. If available its like a shot of Glenfiddich 18 years is Rs.1200.00 to 1400.00!!!!
So these KL14 mallus who own a car, pool in friends and come to Mangalore, get drunk and drive back. This is the reason for most of the accidents in Mangalore!!!
