Absconders donated money to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation: BJP

New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS): The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation donation row is back, with the BJP alleging on Monday that firms linked with absconders like Mehul Choksi have donated to RGF, calling the donation a "scam".

"Mehul Choksi is involved in the Punjab National Bank fraud case. Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has received many lakhs of rupees from the Foundation of Mehul Choksi," alleged BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra in a press conference.

He further alleged, "Mehul Choksi ke naam par Geetanjali Group hai. Under this comes another company M/s Naviraj Estates. This company donated Rs 10 lakh to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation on 29 August 2014 through cheque number 676400." Patra gave these details during Monday's media briefing.

The BJP went ahead and linked another absconder Zakir Naik to RGF, a Fund run by the Gandhis. "His organisation, Islamic Research Foundation, is under investigation under PMLA. The donation to RGF was made from Account Number - 00120200000126 in DCB Bank. This account number is seized under PMLA," alleged Patra while referring to Zakir Naik.

The BJP also alleged that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation which earlier has been in the eye of a storm for receiving donations from China, has received funds from Rana Kapoor of Yes Bank and Jignesh Shah of FTIL.

Patra alleged that the Yes Bank "scam" which is based on "diversion" becomes even more significant given that Rs 9 cr 45 lakhs was "diverted" from Yes Bank to RGF. "It wasn't Rana Kapoor's money but Yes Bank's which was yours and mine which was diverted to the Foundation of Ma and Beta," alleged Patra.

He also accused the FTIL of donating Rs 50 lakh to RGF on October 27, 2011. Patra said that the company was "already under investigation".

    Mr. Patra,

Thanks for the information about the donors. Now, can you name the donors for the present "PM Care Fund"? and how that fund is used.

If the donation is made by cheque then isn't it transparent and legal?????......Let PMLA investigate about it and people of India will fully cooperate with investigation. How much of absconders wealth you have plundered, any account about it and why are you putting hurdles for their return as they are willing pay back all capital and dues?????????....UK court too is willing to repatriate them back but they need assurance of safety and a fair trial but you are unwilling to give this assurance, Why???????????.....

There is no transparency in donations, received by political parties. There should be law to publish the details of the donations, at least in their own webpage. If a ruling party accept donation from anybody, there should be restrictions of 5 Years to make any favors to that donor. Otherwise, it should be considered as bribe.

This party is still stuck in Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi era. Refusing to progress. That's why anything happens in their life now is attributed to those two long gone souls.

Sambit Patra should also explain how he was made the director of ONGC and ruined top profit making unit into a loss making unit. Also about the electoral bonds his boss is getting from unknown sources which do not come under RTI which happened lately. It's not a new thing that political parties receive donations from scamsters and tainted People to keep them safe, but it doesn't happen with only one party. Today the government of India maybe bankrupt but in terms of party funds, BJP is the richest so people like Sambit Patra should think before accusing others of being frauds when his entire party is reeking of the stink of frauds. Pls go and check Mr. Modi's Mann ki from August 2020, the amount of dislikes it has speaks about the trend towards which the voters are shifting, this government is short lived and hopefully we will have real achhe din ahead. Jai Hind..!!

Dr Sambit Patra, a friendly and popular spokesperson is an established surgeon by profession, well read, even quotes verbatim from the Bhagavad Gita, intelligent and charismatic.

He speaks the truth, only the truth with unassailable evidence, proof, facts and verified information.

Nothing more needs to be said.
