Hyderabad set to unveil dazzling cable-stayed bridge

Hyderabad, Sep 2 (IANS): Hyderabad is all set to add another iconic structure as the city's first cable-stayed bridge is ready to be unveiled.

The bridge, which has come up on Durgam Cheruvu lake, is expected to add glitter to the information technology hub Madhapur, housing gleaming towers of several global IT giants.

Telangana's Minister for Information Technology and Municipal Administration, K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday released a video of the bridge, which will connect Road Number 45 in Jubilee Hills to Madhapur.

"Infrastructure is the key to growth and the Telangana government spends over 60% budget on infra creation,"he tweeted.

The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 180 crore, will not only cut short the distance between the two points but will also become the new tourist spot as the authorities propose to allow only pedestrians on the bridge during the weekends.

As Durgam Cheruvu is being developed as a tourist spot, people can enjoy the scenic beauty from the 'hanging bridge'

It is claimed to be the world's longest span extradosed cable stayed bridge with a length of 238 metres.

Infrastructure major L&T has designed and constructed the bridge under Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), officials only cables were procured from Germany while all other components are from India.

Officials say 4,800 metric tonnes of steel, 300 metric tonnes of stay-cable and 3,000 cubic metres of concrete were used in the construction. A total of 26 stay-cables support 53 cement concrete segments of the bridge.

A key feature of the iconic structure is architectural lighting, which will add attraction during holidays, festivals and special occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day.

There will be 25 different themes of the multi-coloured lighting depending on the occasion.
