Indonesian govt sets aside higher allocation for defence sector


Jakarta, Sep 2 (IANS): The Indonesian government has allocated 137 trillion rupiah (some 9.25 billion US dollars) for the defence sector next year.

Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati made the announcement in Parliament on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

The allocation was higher compared with this year's outlook of 117.9 trillion rupiah (about $7.96 billion).

The allocation for the police has also been ratcheted up to 112 trillion rupiah ($7.57 billion) for 2021 from 92.6 trillion rupiah (about $6.26 billion) for this year.
