Puttur, Sep 4: Three persons from Belandur and Balnadu villages in Puttur taluk were arrested by the Bengaluru city police on September 1. They were reportedly trying to sell diamond crystals worth about Rs 40 lac to a shop at Bengaluru. Ravikumar from Balnadu village, Sudheer from Belandur village and Praveen Kumar from Beltangady were taken into custody by the police. Nine rare diamond crystals and a car which they had used for marketing the precious gems, were taken into custody by the police.
The police said they took the diamonds into possession as the people who were trying to sell them did not have proper documents about their ownership, and as their actual owners could not be found. They are now investigating to find out the real story behind these diamonds. The police are yet to find out from the arrested accused how they came into possession of these diamonds.
It is learnt that one of the accused had used a car belonging to a relative for transporting the diamonds. It is said that the relatives were worried as the accused and their car were not to be seen since the last two days. Now the accused has been arrested at Bengaluru.
The accused, who approached a jewellery making shop near the city market on the night of September 1 were taken into custody by a team of policemen led by inspector Kumaraswamy. The police said that the accused had kept the diamonds in a red purse normally used by ladies, duly wrapped in blue colour paper. The police got the diamonds evaluated by experts for their genuineness and worth, and found that they are genuine and worth Rs 40 lac.
