Mumbai, Mar 30: Mumbai University (MU) organized a lecture on ‘Pampa’s greatness and glory’ at Ranade Bhavan of Kannada department of MU, Vidyanagari, Santacruz (East) here, recently.
Dr Krishnamurti Hanoor, professor of Mysore University and member of Kendra Sahitya Academy, in his lecture, said that all the countrymen revere Mahabharat that has been authored by Pampa, based on non-violence virtue. Although, Pampa had authored the popular scripture based on his inner convictions, he has not covered it fully. Kannada poets have explored the spiritual aspects more precisely in their poetry inspired by his work, he added.
Dr K Raghunath, Dr Sanjeev Shetty, Dr Prabhu Angady, Suman Chiplunkar, Eshwar Alevoor, Mariyappa Natekar, Jyothi Devadiga and Shivaraj K among others participated in the seminar.
MU head of Kannada department Dr G N Upadya welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address. Poornima Shetty proposed the vote of thanks. Vidya Deshpande compered the programme.
About Hanoor
He is a multi-lingual professor, serving with Mysore University, expert in both modern and contemporary Kannada literature. He is also folklore and manuscript expert and member of Kendra Sahitya Academy.
A recipient of Karnataka Janapad Academy Award, he is story writer, whose works are based on the rural living and sensibilities. He has over 25 story books published.
